Why Microneedle Facial Treatments are Not Recommended during the Summertime

March 30, 2017

Microneedle facial treatments are a common way to help the skin overcome issues such as acne, rosacea, scars, and so forth. The treatments are highly popular for several reasons, but the most important is the fact that it works for millions of people.

What is Microneedle Facial Treatment?

This is a treatment in which a device is used that has several tiny needles on a roller: This device is then rolled onto the skin which creates tiny holes. The holes are not deep enough to cause any bleeding and being treated with the device feels like tiny pinpricks that only cause a slight pain that quickly fades depending on the sensitivity of the skin itself.

The collagen of the skin reacts to the holes by filling in the gaps, causing older skin cells to flake away while newer, younger cells take its place. The damage created causes the skin to heal which means that acne, rosacea, and old scars will start to fade. With the new skin taking the place of the old, your face will appear more youthful and vibrant.

This form of skin treatment works quite well for lessening the appearance of scars as new skin takes its place. It also helps the skin to become suppler and brighter which can make noticeable improvements. For the most part, this form of treatment usually takes place in the fall, winter, and early spring. However, it is generally not advisable for the treatment to take place during the summer months.

Why Microneedle Facial Treatment is Not Recommended for the Summer

The main reason why this form of treatment is recommended more for the fall, winter, and early months of spring is the potential overexposure to the sun which may cause damage to the skin. Sunburns are most likely to occur in the summer months which can lessen the effectiveness of the treatments and perhaps cause more issues to occur.

The ultraviolet light from the sun is more intense during the summer months and that exposure may slow down the healing process. This makes the treatments far less effective, so unless you stay indoors all the time it is recommended that you avoid microneedle facials until the fall when the sunlight is less intense. Of course, you should always protect your face from sunlight using creams and moisturizers that offer good UV protection. By keeping your skin protected, you can avoid many of the issues that cause damage and deterioration over time.

Another factor is the heat generated during the summer causes you to sweat more profusely which means the greater likelihood of germs and bacteria entering the skin through the tiny holes produced by microneedle treatments. While it’s a small possibility that can be offset somewhat by keeping your skin clean, it is more likely to happen when you are sweating which is why treatments should be curbed in the summer.

Of course, if you are not likely to go outside often, especially during the heat of the day, you might consider continuing your microneedle facial treatments if they are showing positive results.
