Reflexology
Reflexology is the application of pressure to specific points located on the ears, hands, or feet. The theory is that these locations contain reflex points that link up to organs and body systems. By applying pressure in the correct area, it will provide a beneficial effect.
Although it is not acupuncture, reflexology operates with the same thought process that the systems and organs can be affected in a positive manner through specific points on the body. This means that you may feel an overall better sense of wellbeing, and reduce the levels of stress in your body.
How It Works
A person who is trained and certified Reflexologist provides the treatment. They will ask questions to learn any issues that you are experiencing and create a plan for relief. This is in the form of applying gentle pressure to specific points in the body. Because the points are connected through the central nervous system, this will influence body systems and organs which in turn will help provide relief.
Reflexology is different than standard massage therapies that are designed to affect the muscles directly. Instead, it works with the central nervous system to affect areas of the body through the hands, feet or ears. The treatment sessions are generally about 45 minutes and are repeated over time based on the progress being made. While full treatment may take weeks, many who experience the process will often feel some relief after the first session.
Why Reflexology May Be Right for You
It should be noted that reflexology does not directly treat or cure medical disorders. However, it can be used in addition to standard medical treatments to help people relieve stress while having a positive effect on the systems and organs in the body.
- Improves Wellbeing: For those who may be feeling out of sorts, perhaps anxious or stressed out, reflexology offers effective treatment that provides fast results without the use of prescription or over the counter medications.
- Treatment: If you are undergoing medical treatments for conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, and more, reflexology may help you relieve stress and help overall wellbeing. Because no medications are used, reflexology is safe and will complement the treatment process.
Reflexology is a proven treatment that can be applied by those who have been properly trained. However, it is a treatment that has proven to provide a more relaxed state of being. Today, reflexology is considered a viable treatment that compliments standard medical practices.
