Side Effects of Oxygen-Facials

June 5, 2017

Developed by Intraceuticals, an Australian-based firm, it is a device that was first designed for chemotherapy to patients suffering from skin cancer. However, it was not long before the device was converted to delivering pressurized oxygen which contains a serum that is injected into the skin.

Over the past few years, more people have been discovering the benefits of the oxygen facials that offer advantages over other, more traditional methods. Of course, there are those who have skin that is not well-suited for the treatments, but the advantages are considerable for most.

Benefits

This treatment is designed for those who have prematurely aging skin or specific skin issues they want addressed.

Instant Benefits: While other types of facials take days or even weeks to see the benefits because the skin must heal first, those who experience the oxygen facial notice younger, more youthful skin almost immediately. Plus, those who suffer from a variety of skin issues which include acne see noticeable results right away as the skin begins to clear up quickly.

Little to No Pain: Unlike microdermabrasion for example, the oxygen facial has no painful side effects. In addition, there is no burning, itching, or stinging associated with this form of treatment. This means that these with sensitive skin or who do not like needles can use this form of facial easily as it is gentle. This is arguably the main reason for many who undergo the oxygen facial compared to other types of treatments.

Fast Recovery Time: One of the most noticeable benefits is that the patient can apply lotion or makeup to their skin right after the treatment. While most facials require several hours of waiting before applying any makeup or lotions, the oxygen facial has no such waiting period.

In addition, the oxygen combined with the vitamins that are also infused into the skin is healthy, beneficial, and promotes the growth of collagen and cells which provide a more youthful appearance. For those who have skin stained from tobacco use or dirty air, they will see the benefits as well with lighter, younger looking skin.

Disadvantages

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a treatment without some side effect, for some person, in some given circumstance.

Temporary: Although all facials are temporary, the effects of this version do not last as long as most others. This means that you will have to undergo the treatments more frequently to keep up their effects.

Too Many Treatments: You can have too many treatments.  The oxygen facials will release free radicals into the skin that cause premature aging. This means over-doing it could with time more wrinkles, lines, and other signs of premature aging that counteracts the effect of the facial itself.

The FDA has yet to approve oxygen facials and there is no licensing required for its use.  This means that it is very important that you find a skilled and experienced practitioner to help you with this type of skincare.   There have been injuries, discomfort, and other issues associated with the improper application of the oxygen facial.
